Cinco de Mayo is here and for those of you who have never officially joined in on the holiday cheer, you’re certainly missing out. Those of us here at One Choice Insurance want to help you decide how to spend your Cinco de Mayo properly while in the lone star state.
Due to Texas’ historical ties with Mexico, as it was once a part of Mexico for those who need to brush up on their U.S. history, it would only make sense that Texas also hosts some of the largest Cinco de Mayo celebrations throughout America with the exception of Los Angeles.
Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates Mexico’s defeat of the significantly larger French army in the battle of Puebla back in 1862. Cinco de Mayo often see’s large festivals, parades, plenty of taco eating and margarita drinking, and even mariachi band performances in order to celebrate the historic day. Here are just some of the options for you to partake in all across the state of Texas in order to join in the holiday cheer.
You can choose to attend the Cinco de Mayo parade being held in downtown San Marcos at 10 a.m. on May 5th. The town also hosts an annual cook off every May 7th to accommodate the Cinco de Mayo celebration. The cook off competition is between chefs with their own famous Menudo recipes and if you don’t yet know what a Menudo is then that just solidifies the fact this celebration is definite must for you.
If you would rather spend the holiday in the state’s capital of Austin then there’s still more than plenty to do. The Chuy’s Hot to Trot 5K and KidsK are some of the most popular events throughout the whole town. They both are held on the same day Cinco de Mayo is in the city of Austin and you can easily find information online about the races.
The Dallas Cinco de Mayo Parade is annually one of the largest events hosted in the city. Last year the parade had nearly 20,000 celebrants turn up and it’s no doubt this year’s parade will be equally active. It’s also being accompanied by vendors, a car show, music, and even tailgating the night before!
Speaking of tailgating, Taco Cabana is offering a free breakfast taco for any customer who presents a coupon to one of their locations on Cinco de Mayo day. This is their way of helping those who tailgate heavily for the holiday the night before to pick themselves up from the massive hangover they’re likely sporting. Taco Bell is also offering $1 tacos and drinks all day on Cinco de Mayo to all their customers.
If there’s any city in Texas that knows how to celebrate Cinco de Mayo right, it’s certainly San Antonio. There are several celebrations held in the town’s historic Market Square each year that draws thousands from all over to see the festivities. Not to mention the authentic and rich culture the town possess is sure to stun anyone who hasn’t attended one of their annual Cinco de Mayo celebrations before.
Texas is ripe with festivals, parades, and events of all kind across the whole state. If we didn’t mention a festival near you, it shouldn’t be too hard to locate one even within the smallest of towns. Happy holidays from those of us at One Choice Insurance!
